Since 2011 our parish has been able to award need-based scholarships to graduating high school seniors in our community who plan to further their education by attending college or an accredited school for specialized training. For the past seven years we have granted three scholarships of $1000 each. For the past six years we have also been able to give additional scholarship support to previous recipients qualifying for further assistance.
Caleb Crouch, a scholarship recipient in our first year (2011), is our first college graduate. He received his degree in music education from Michigan State University in December, 2015, and is now teaching in the East Jordan School System. Luke Hawley (2012 CEC scholarship recipient) is our second college graduate. In May 2017 he received his degree (with honors) this spring from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
Funding for these scholarships has come from designated giving by our parishioners, allocated funds in the budget as approved by our vestry, and grants from our Endowment Fund and Scholarship Endowment Fund. To date, CEC has awarded $58,000 to 21 area scholars.
We keep in touch with our recipients and every Sunday include them by name in our Prayers for the People. They are all invited back each year when we award the scholarships in our Sunday morning worship.
Presentation of the 2023 scholarships were made in June. In addition to the 2023 scholarships, we were able to give continued to support to several of our previous recipients.
to join us! Our Sunday morning worship service (Rite II with Holy Eucharist) begins at 10:00 a.m. with a coffee hour following in our Parish Hall.
